The First Submission

No, I’m not talking about the fifty shades variety . . . Indeed, this is far more exciting! That’s right, folks, last week I submitted my completed manuscript for the very first time.

The elation of physically handing it over left me quite light-headed. While I realise that the chances of it being chosen for publication first time out are miniscule, this was nonetheless a huge milestone for me. After three years of hacking the thing out, culminating in three days of relentless proofing I finally reached the point where I was able to say, ‘Okay, that’s enough. I am ready to let the world see it.’

Is that applause I hear? Why thank you. You should probably hold that until I hear something back from them.

No doubt I will go back to it and want to make changes, so I must resist the urge to make any major modifications – at least for the time being. I did what I said after finishing the 2nd draft – left it alone for awhile, then went back and read it through from start to finish. The version I submitted was what it became after that read-through, with some minor amendments based on notes scribbled in pencil in the margins.

On the whole, I thought it was okay. Let’s hope those I submitted it to feel the same. Watch this space . . .
