A World of Inspiration

Where do writers get inspiration? I doubt there is a writer alive who has not been asked that question in one form or another. . . and I doubt anyone ever got a straight answer!

It could be something you see, something you hear or something you dream. Most often it’s a combination of these things and more. I caught the ferry to Stradbroke Island over the weekend to get some rest. Straddie is a great place to do that – it is beautiful, largely untamed and the pace of life is so slow it can hardly be called that at all. You eat, drink and chill. For something to do, you go for a drive on the beach. . . and that’s how it happens.

To get to the beach we had to cross the island. You may have heard about the fires that ripped through there just recently – yes? No? It doesn’t matter. This is what I saw:

I went from peaceful to quiet to thoughtful. What if..?

And that’s it, right there. What if – you were caught between a cliff and a fire – or you were separated from your boyfriend/lover/children when tragedy struck – or . . .
The possibilities are endless. It is up to you to recognize them and run with them.

Where I get my inspiration? Pfft – that’s easy: The World.

(The hard part is getting rest … if anyone has any tips on switching your brain off, let me know!)
