Oops, I did it again

The thing about finishing another draft of my manuscript is that I feel compelled to give it one final read-through. My intention is to catch those little things that may have been missed during The Big Edit – things like: A shot rang out in the the dark
(For the record, nobody gets shot in Runaway Cara but I don’t believe there is ever a valid reason for two the‘s to reside together.)

But I digress.

The trouble with ‘just one more quick read-through’ is that the first note I made was: Change start.
Again? Really? Will I ever be happy with it?

The answer to that, of course, is No, but at some point I really must stop re-reading the thing. I have the bones of my query letter written and this weekend is all about synopsis. Perfectionism is a handicap to writers of fiction. It is imperative to learn how to know when to stop. It will never be perfect, so just cast it out there and see if anyone bites.

Although, I did have a valid point with my second note: Get to the point.

Okay, so maybe just a teensy change, then . . .

I do this all the time. I notice something different each time, and after making changes, I say “One more time.” Writer probs
